Putney and Wimbledon London wedding, London, January 2015
The Wedding of Katie and Danny took place at The Sacred Heart Church, a Catholic Church in the heart of Wimbledon. These two are such a bubbly, fun pair…their personalities positively shine through in the photographs. My style is an unobtrusive one; I let the action unfold naturally and capture all the action and emotions as they happen without interfering. This style of photography, often referred to as reportage, or creative documentary, suited Danny and Katie perfectly, as they didn’t want lots of posed photographs with lots of direction on the day. When we met, months before the wedding, we discussed what kind of photographs they hoped for. As with many engaged couples, they wanted a wedding photographer who would capture all the key events, as well as the in-between moments that are often both poignant and unique. They also wanted to have photographs of all their dear friends and family, and to have the atmosphere and the story of the day captured in it’s entirety. Wedding days can go by so fast for the bride and groom, so photographs are a lovely way for them to sit down after the event and soak up all that happened….sometimes there are even moments in the set of images that they forgot all about or were too busy to notice at the time. To me good wedding photography captures what it felt like to be there, and tells the story of the day in a way that will speak to the hearts of all those who took part.
The reception was held at The Thames Rowing Club, at Putney Embankment, which we reached on a vintage London route master bus. Once we arrived, there was time for a brief moment looking out across the river at dusk, which was when I managed to take some lovely relaxed portraits of Danny and Katie on their own. The rest of the evening went by in true Katie and Danny style…it was heaps of fun, with much laughter from every guest all evening.
