I think this session in Chalk Farm is a perfect example of why I find the ‘in home’ storytelling approach to photography to be the best way to capture authentic portraits. Children are always happiest in their own environments, and Chloe welcomed me in such a lovely way, keen to show me all her favourite things. Chloe’s enthusiasm for everything was infectious, and she was very happy to lead the session by suggesting things to do and happily settling down to play in different spots around the house.
There are so may benefits to having your family’s portraits taken at home….and as you can see, the main plus for me is that children are always very relaxed when in their own home. It’s easy for me to capture honest and spontaneous connections as they unfold naturally, rather than trying to set them up and then trying to encourage the child to comply. Later on, we did pop out to Primrose Hill for a few shots, which is a path very well trodden by Chloe and Mum. If there’s a local spot that you often visit, this can be quite a nice way to end the session, with a few action shots.
