You will find a fabulous Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter’s tea party, a military wedding, a summer in Wales, Gloucestershire, and London and lots of wonderful families that I’ve been so very lucky to photograph these past twelve months.
I love this poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson;
“Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.
This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays.”
I really look forward to the coming year and all the hopes and invitations each new day has to offer. Sometimes it can be hard to remember to own the day, and put ones worries about the future and regrets about the past aside. When I am taking photographs every ounce of my being is focused on what I’m doing in that moment, which is one reason why I love it so much. Through staying in the present, we find truth and beauty in the everyday, and find the extraordinary in the ordinary. For the extraordinary is all around us, if we only look.
When we are just hanging out with our loved ones, enjoying each others company, great memories can be captured without the need for posing and direction. Add to this scenario an artist’s ability to see creatively, and compose beautifully lit images, and the magic begins to happen….
As a family and children’s photographer, I want to tell the real story of your family, creating images that need no words, posing or explanations to accompany them. Images that celebrate the wonder and beauty of the everyday; extraordinary moments that might otherwise have been forgotten. Each portrait session is uniquely tailored to each individual family in order to create timeless photographs that speak to the heart.
